Hiring, Like Dating, Sucks; Here’s How Startups Are Trying To Fix It.
New research suggests that people treat hiring like dating. So companies are trying to solve for the qualities that make for Mr. or Mrs. Right.
Like dating, a human endeavor frought with uncertainty, reward, and high turnover, hiring has a habit of taking all the theories and recommendations you have about a candidate (or, from the other side, the company) and emptying them unceremoniously into the nearest garbage can. At a fundamental level, when two people sit down to an interview, it’s two humans trying to figure out if they like each other.
And, according to Northwestern researcher Lauren Rivera, what most people are looking for is “me.” In the companies she studied, interviewers who lacked systematic measures of what their company was looking for tended to fall back on themselves and defining merit in “their own image,” meaning that the most qualified interviewees were those who best resembled their interviewers.
Because of this pattern, the consultancies, banks, and law firms that Rivera studied tended to “replicate themselves,” hiring only people who had the same hobbies, styles of self-presentation, and educational and geographic backgrounds. Even if there was nontrivial demographic diversity across race or gender, there remained a more fundamental homogeniety of culture or personality.
Which is a bad thing for innovation. Research shows that if you want to create new ideas, you need to include the outgroup.
What Rivera’s studies evidence is that the murkier aspects of hiring–like personality fit–have been left to hunches, heuristics, and their inevitable human biases, a multi-faceted blindspot that a crop of companies seek to cure.

You may have heard of eHarmony. Launched back in 2000, the Santa Monica company known for making long-lasting couples–to the tune of 100,000 marriages a year–is now taking first steps into the recruitment racket. VP of customer experience Grant Langston tells Fast Company that they’ll probably bring a product to market next year, though at present the effort is being developed by four full-time employees and a gaggle of consultants.
Langston says the company will try to slow down the rate of job-hopping, similar to what they did with divorce. He chalks the turnover rate up to superficial assessments of job fitness for both employee and employer, leading to fundamental disconnects and leaving employees feeling underappreciated.
“The jobseeker, more than anything, craves the knowledge that they end up in a place that values who they are,” he says, comparing that with the sense of my-partner-understands-me that the romantic matching has enabled. “If we can put that same experience in a job situation, we’ll have a lot more productivity and happier people.”

When Sean Glass was getting his masters in Applied Positive Psychology at Penn, he was struck by how good scientists had become at grabbing the data underlying what’s good about them–emotional intelligence, psychological strengths, and the like–and that no one had built software built around that data.
His company, EmployInsight, is aiming to change that by allowing you to profile your work along a psychological dimension, both by assessment engine and matching algorithms, and in doing so helping to cure that psychological blindspot (for a consumer-facing idea of how this works, check out StrengthsInsight). “Just as you would specify the skills for every job you hire for,” Glass writes to Fast Company via email, “you should also work to specify the psychological resources used by that job.”
Glass makes the following case: While you may need the same technical skillset for every engineer on your team, you’d want to have a diversity of psychological resources–one should be more creative, another diligent, another a quick learner. “It was hard to specify jobs this way before,” he says. “We’ve made it much easier.”

Before you can get to personality, you need to start with resumes, says Bright, who combed through 2 million of them (and 15 million job descriptions) to sculpt their algorithmic Brightscore, which matches skillset and experience to position.
“If you’re a call center and you need to hire for the next two months, its really hard to date 2,000 people at the same time,” says CEO Steve Goodman, “so the first order of business, regardless of cultural fit, is getting the short list of people. Once you have that, then you can date.”
The Brightscore doesn’t take personality questions into account, says chief scientist David Hardtke, who says that personality characteristics can reduce competitiveness of applicants. He mentions a Fortune 500 company that Bright consulted for that wanted “go-getters” to be their salespeople–so they only hired fraternity and sorority presidents as their salespeople, eliminating candidates and reducing diversity.
Still, Hardtke says, the most pressing of questions–who will be the best performers in a given role–is hard to answer (and to collect information for). Hardtke says that it is “very difficult” to gather sufficient systematic data to predict person-job fit; person-organization is much easier. As Bright grows, they have the goal of collecting enough data from enough corporations to improve person-job fit–though it’s not there yet.

New dating show ‘Eastern Hookup’ helps spark young love at Eastern Michigan University.
Finding love in college doesn’t have to mean stolen glances at the computer lab or missives shouted over the blaring radio at a house party or even accidental collisions at Rick’s.
Now that Eastern Michigan University students have harkened back to the 1960s and paid homage to the illustrious “Dating Game” television show, students can get struck by Cupid’s arrow the old-fashioned way: blind dating on TV.
College TV, that is.
EMU students have begun taping episodes of “The Eastern Hookup,” an EMU television show where one able-bodied college student interviews three possible dates without seeing them. In the end, the bachelor or bachelorette chooses one contestant, and after she or he is revealed they go on a date.
It’s so romantic, right?
“Dating is tough, especially in a world that can seem loveless at times,” student Alex Nelson, the show’s producer, told EMU’s student newspaper the Eastern Echo in article that appeared Feb. 27. Nelson says he wants to ignite “that spark” (you know, that feeling when weak knees, fluttering butterflies and a rush of college hormones collide) because “everybody deserves a chance to find love.”
You can view the show on EMU Television’s Youtube channel. It appears that this academic year there have been two episodes, one in October and the other in November.
What kind of dating questions can you expect as students look for that special spark? “Tell me something that is very appealing in a partner?” “Are you a virgin?” “What food would you order for me on a date?”Ah, college.

Using their personality mapping tech, the startup can measure where there’s a leadership vacuum or a lack of implementers. If you’ve already got a leader, jobFig will filter out the leader-types so the two don’t fight like betta fish. Using their personality data crunching, the qualitative ambiguities of team cohesion grow more quantitative and actionable–similarly to the other startups in the prehire assessment space.
To cofounder Ravi Mikkelsen, it’s a positive: “Everyone in this space is competitive in that we’re all prehire assessments,” he says, “but we’re also quite complementary in that we all do something slightly different.”
Still, the challenge is in the data-collecting itself.
“In order to do better hiring, you need to have a really solid, systematic, and scientifically valid understanding of what it takes to be successful,” says Rivera, the Northwestern assistant professor. “So until you have that, you can match people to the cows come home, and I’m not confident it would actually give you better or worse hires.”

How many times have you been in a bar/club and given your telephone number to someone you know very little about? On the other side of the coin online dating has some advantages over conventional dating because tt provides convenient and wide access to potential partners, especially for those who lack such access. Remember, there are always risks in dating, especially when you date strangers, blind dates, first dates and cyber dates.
Cyber dating is different from other first dates, when you first meet a cyber date in person off-line you feel as though you know them and the normal first date precautions are often tossed into the wind. You already know their favorite songs, there favorite travel spots, you know everything that they told you but they may not be telling you the truth. You do not really know them so treat them as strangers. Use all the normal precautions you use with strangers, and remember you should not give any more information to a first date than you would to a stranger you meet on a plane or a club or at a party.
I don’t know if you’re aware of this but in my opinion and also talking to friends who go online to date, that the majority feel men tend to lie about their income, their level of baldness, and their athletic condition. Women on the other hand lie about their weight or age and teenagers pretend to be older than they are. The one rule you can rely on is that everyone lies a little so keep an open mind when conducting cyber dating online.

If you cannot double-date or have someone accompany you, you can ask someone to observe discreetly from a distance without intruding on your date.
Finally, and most importantly, if you are going to engage in any sexual activity, ask about your date’s health status. Find out their HIV and STD status. Also remember that not everyone is honest and some will not tell you their real status.

Millions of people across the country use some kind of dating service. Here in West Michigan, one woman turned to a dating service after her husband died. Another did the same after a nasty divorce. Both say they lost thousands of dollars — and the company’s phone is now disconnected.
Lisa Wheaton started looking for a dating service after she divorced a man she said abused her.”Came home one night and beat the crap out of me and he was gone the next morning,” Wheaton recalled.
Wheaton then found out her ex-husband had a criminal history, including an incident of assault.So after her divorce she chose a dating service that ran background checks. She chose Two of Us in Grand Rapids, the same company Target 8 investigated.
“I went ‘Oh! Oh my God, they’re on the news!’” she said.Last year, Target 8 met Elizabeth Labine, who sued Two of Us and got half of her money back. “I just remember feeling very pressured,” she said at the time.
Labine paid nearly $3,000 and only went on two dates.Wheaton paid more than $4,000 and only had one date in the past year.
Last year, Two of Us Vice President of Operations Ethan Baker said the company was not running a scam.
Now, at the office where Target 8 interviewed Baker in May 2012, the Two of Us logo remains on the window, but the office is cleared out.
“I thought, ‘Holy crap, I have a whole year on this contract to go and they ripped me off,’” said Wheaton.Baker emailed a statement confirming the company’s Grand Rapids office closed and that “all members were notified via email or mail, and instructed to contact Matchmaker Michigan,” another local dating service.

I know my picture hasn’t been approved yet, but it says right in the name that I’ve got a “goodpersonality69″! So much for personality, I guess. 69.)
So what’s the problem? I mean, none, in theory. Everyone loves to compare notes on what’s “normal” when it comes to timing and dating site has crunched the numbers to reveal timing norms and outliers on dating firsts.
Pulled from dating site 2012 Singles In America Study (which surveyed an outside, representative sample of more than 5,000 U.S. singles) – the data gives us a ‘Dating Timeline’ where singles can compare themselves from the first date, to the wedding and everything in between.
First date behavior
- 85 percent say it’s OK to give a peck on the cheek and hold hands on a first date, and 40 percent say it’s OK to make out.
- Only 7 percent of singles think sex on the first date is appropriate.
The follow-up call
- Men: If he had a good time, 30.6 percent would reach out the next day and 24.7 percent would get back in touch after 2-3 days, while 1.7 percent would wait 4-6 days.
- Women: Nearly half (47 percent) wait for the other person to reach out after a first date, 16.8 percent would wait 2-3 days, and a slim 3.8 percent would get back in touch on the same day.
Facebook: When to friend
- After 2-3 dates, 20 percent of single men and 16 percent of single women would add a date on Facebook.
- 16 percent of women would wait until the relationship has become exclusive to send a Facebook friend request; while 10 percent of men reported being a bit more anxious and would send a friend request before the first date.
Talk
How long singles wait to have sex
- Men: 37.5 percent want to wait until their new partner is ready before having sex for the first time, while 13.7 percent report generally waiting three dates before heading to the bedroom.
- Women: Commitment plays a more significant role for women with 30.8 percent reporting they’d wait until they were in an exclusive relationship with the other person and 16.3 percent wanting to wait until marriage. Only 1.4 percent of single women reported they have sex on a first date.
When to talk money, exes and politics
- Politics: Almost half (42 percent) of singles wait 2-3 weeks before bringing up politics.
- The Ex Factor: 34 percent of singles would let one month of dating pass before bring up an ex, and 27 percent would wait 2-3 months. Only 5 percent of men and 3 percent of women would bring up an ex on a first date.
- Money: 28 percent of singles would wait 2-3 months before discussing salaries, and 21 percent would wait 4-6 months.
Friend Circle
Meet and greet expectations
- The Friend Circle: Overall, nearly half (43 percent) of singles would expect to be introduced to their date’s friends after 2-3 months of dating. However, a larger percentage of men (43 percent) vs. women (34 percent) would want this process to move faster, with expectations of meeting their date’s friends within the first month.
- Meeting the Family: 35 percent of single women would wait 2-3 months before introducing a date to their family. Single men (37 percent) are slightly more likely than women (34 percent) to wait 2-3 months before making family introductions, while more women (32 percent) than men (25 percent) would wait 4-6 months.
Getting serious: The move-in and ring
- The Move-in: Overall, 20 percent of singles would expect to move in with their partner after a year of dating. However, 26 percent of single women would not live with someone before marriage, while 21 percent of single men would expect to move-in after only 4-6 months of dating. Outlier: only 8.9 percent of men and 2.7 percent of women would expect to move in after 2-3 months.
- The Ring: 29 percent of singles expect to get engaged after one year, but before two years of dating. Outlier: Only 9.4 percent of men and 4.6 percent of women would expect to get engaged within the first 6 months.

Harry Styles has denied rumours he is dating US model Emma Ostilly after he was pictured kissing her in New Zealand after a night out.
The One Direction girl magnet spoke out after the Victoria’s Secrets model, 18, was hounded off Twitter by envious Directioners.
Fans of the curly-haired heartthrob will no doubt breathe a sigh of relief as it was assumed they were seeing each other following pictures of the two kissing surfacing earlier this week.
But the 18-year-old has said: ‘She’s just a friend. She’s working over here…I prefer not to talk about it.’After pictures emerged of the pair locking lips during a night out in New Zealand, jealous 1D fans took to their Twitter accounts to post abusive messages to Ostilly.
Emma, who first met Harry during filming for One Direction’s Gotta Be You music video, had previously posted a snap of her with the curly-haired singer online, with the caption: ‘Dinnnaa with harry styles’.
But after the taunts became too much, Emma deleted her Twitter account to avoid any more abuse.
Some users labelled her a ‘b**** whore’ who deserved to ‘die in a hole’, and others even set up Facebook pages called ‘Anti Emma Ostilly’ and ‘I hate Emma Ostilly’.
Styles has also been linked to 19-year-old US singer Lily Halpern in recent weeks.
Earlier in the year he broke up with 32-year-old Xtra Factor presenter Caroline Flack after online dating for three months.
She also feel victim to cruel taunts on Twitter from One Direction fans.
Opening up about the abuse afterwards, she told The People: ‘I suppose they’re entitled to their opinions but it was really tough. I learned the hard way. I learned a very difficult lesson but I suppose looking forward it isn’t a bad lesson to learn, is it?’

The best way to flirt with women is through teasing, but unless it is done right, it could backfire. That’s why it is important to have an arsenal of flirting techniques at the ready, says Dating Expert Carlos Xuma in his new report.
Learning how to flirt with women is the key to having a successful and thriving dating life, Xuma says in his new report.
“The best kind of flirtation with a woman is to tease her, to bust her balls, to let her know that she is not on a pedestal,” Xuma says in his new report. “Make fun of her. Be indifferent to her interest. All these elements of teasing pull together the Three S’s (Self-confidence, Self-discipline, Sense-of-humor) help a man present himself as a challenge to her. When a man doesn’t approach her with a compliment or a come-on, she also doesn’t start registering him as someone that wants to date her. He can sneak under her radar that way. Teasing is the best method of flirting.”
However, it is important for men to learn other methods, as well, Xuma says. That is why he gives detailed instructions on how to flirt with women in his new report.
For instance, Xuma teaches men a handful of flirting tools to keep at the ready. He recommends first that men learn how to read palms.
“Palm reading is an excellent method that allows a man to touch a woman (he’s got to hold her hand to read it, right?) It also helps engage the woman’s romantic thought process, so the guy wins on two levels,” Xuma says.
In addition, Xuma’s report on flirting with women talks about learning other fortune-telling methods, such as tarot, astrology, handwriting analysis, and I-ching.
But men who aren’t interested in that can pick up other tools to flirt, Xuma says.
“Men who have a dog, or borrow a baby or have some other prop, such as interesting jewelry or a cowboy hat are essentially giving a woman an excuse to walk up and talk to them,” Xuma says. “Those are great tools. Men just need to be careful women don’t think the baby belongs to him or they might think he is unavailable.”
Another good tool to have is a particular skill or magic, Xuma says in his report on how to flirt with women.
“Magic is a great one. Men can impress a woman and flirt by doing a magic trick,” he says. “Or if a guy can play guitar, he’s golden. A man who can play a seductive song for a woman is going to stand heads above every other guy in the room.”
Xuma has spent years teaching hundreds of men flirting tips for guys and has been a dating expert and attraction adviser for more than 10 years. He has appeared on ABC and CBS television, as well as Playboy radio. He’s the author of The Bad Boy Formula, Secrets of the Alpha Male, the Girlfriend Training Program, and numerous other books and articles. He has also been recognized for his work sharing dating advice for guys and sharing tips on pick up artist techniques and how to flirt with women.
Mexican woman
Steve A. Camarota, director of research at the Center for Immigration Studies, a Washington group that advocates tighter immigration policies, said the latest numbers show that immigration policies do make a difference.
“The bottom line is that immigration is not the weather. It is something that … can be changed,” he said. “The economy is worse but enforcement is also higher, making it more difficult for immigrants to get jobs in states like Arizona. They are now making new calculations and changing their views.”
Other findings:
–Illegal Mexican immigrants who have stayed in the U.S. for longer periods of time are now more likely to be sent back by authorities than before. About 27 percent of immigrants sent back had resided in the U.S. for a year or more, up from 6 percent in 2005.
–Despite an increase in Border Patrol agents, apprehensions of illegal immigrants at the U.S.-Mexico border have dropped sharply — from 1 million in 2005 to 286,000 in 2011, a sign that fewer illegal immigrants are trying to enter.
–About 30 percent of all current U.S. immigrants are Mexican born, by far the most from any single country; that’s down from its peak of 32 percent in 2004-2009. The next largest share comes from China (including Hong Kong and Taiwan), accounting for 5 percent of the nation’s 40 million foreign-born residents.
–A typical Mexican woman is projected to have an average of 2.4 children in her lifetime, compared with 7.3 children in 1960.
–By region, Mexican-born immigrants in the U.S. are mostly likely found in the West (51 percent) and South (33 percent). About 58 percent now live in California and Texas, down from 63 percent in 2000 as immigrants spread out over the past decade in search of jobs in other states.
Immigration
Jeffrey Passel, a senior demographer at Pew who co-wrote the analysis, said Mexican immigration may never return to its height during the mid-decade housing and construction boom, even with the U.S. economy recovering. He cited longer-term factors such as a shrinking Mexican work force.
He noted that government data now show a clear shift among Mexican workers already in the U.S. who are returning home. He said that data is a sign that many immigrants are giving up on life in the U.S., feeling squeezed by increasing enforcement and limited opportunities that they don’t see improving anytime soon.
About 1.4 million Mexicans left the U.S. between 2005 and 2010, double the number who did so a decade earlier. In the meantime, the number of Mexicans who entered the U.S. sharply fell to about 1.4 million, putting net migration from Mexico at a standstill. More recent data suggest that most of the movement is now heading back to Mexico, accounting for the drop in the illegal immigrant population.
During the same period, the population of authorized Mexican immigrants edged higher, from 5.6 million to 5.8 million.
Among the Mexican immigrants who leave the U.S., an estimated 5 to 35 percent are deported while the rest opt to go back voluntarily, often taking U.S.-born children with them. Those who were in the U.S. illegally and returned to Mexico also are increasingly saying they will not try to come back — about 20 percent, compared to 7 percent in 2005.
The Pew estimates come amid heightened attention on immigration in an election year where the fast-growing Hispanic population, now making up roughly 16 percent of the U.S. population, could play a key role. Arizona’s law, being challenged by the Obama administration in the Supreme Court, seeks to expand the authority of state police to ask about the immigration status of anybody they stop on the rationale that federal enforcement has largely failed.
Since Arizona’s law passed in 2010, five other states — Alabama, Georgia, Indiana, South Carolina and Utah — have passed similar measures.
U.S.
In all, the Mexican-born population in the U.S. last year — legal and illegal — fell to 12 million, marking an end to an immigration boom dating back to the 1970s, when foreign-born residents from Mexico stood at 760,000. The 2007 peak was 12.6 million.
Christian Ballesteros, who has been at a shelter for immigrants in Matamoros, Mexico, across the border from Brownsville, Texas, pointed to stiffer U.S. penalties for repeat offenders as well as brutal criminal groups that control the Mexican side of the border as reasons for the immigration decline. Ballesteros, who has been deported four times, was recently caught after hopping the border fence near Nogales, Ariz.
“The Mexican cartels are taking over, are actually being like the border patrols on this side,” Ballesteros said. “They threaten them, ‘if you don’t pay, what we’re going to do is we’re going to cut your head off.’ That’s the worst, the worst, the worst part,” Ballesteros said.
After his last apprehension by U.S. authorities, Ballesteros was sent to a detention facility in Las Vegas for 2½ months. He fears it could be six months if he’s caught again. “You can lose money, but if you lose time there’s no way you can recover that time,” Ballesteros said, noting that many immigrants have families to support.

The number of Mexican immigrants living illegally in the U.S. has dropped significantly for the first time in decades, a dramatic shift as many illegal workers, already in the U.S. and seeing few job opportunities, return to Mexico.
An analysis of census data from the U.S. and Mexican governments details the movement to and from Mexico, a nation accounting for nearly 60 percent of the illegal immigrants in the U.S. It comes amid renewed debate over U.S. immigration policy as the Supreme Court hears arguments this week on Arizona’s tough immigration law.
Roughly 6.1 million unauthorized Mexican immigrants were living in the U.S. last year, down from a peak of nearly 7 million in 2007, according to the Pew Hispanic Center study released Monday. It was the biggest sustained drop in modern history, believed to be surpassed in scale only by losses in the Mexican-born U.S. population during the Great Depression.
Much of the drop in illegal immigrants is due to the persistently weak U.S. economy, which has shrunk construction and service-sector jobs attractive to Mexican workers following the housing bust. But increased deportations, heightened U.S. patrols and violence along the border also have played a role, as well as demographic changes, such as Mexico’s declining birth rate.

So then what is Kim doing introducing Kanye to her parents?! The two were spotted dining with the rest of the Kardashian clan at the Spice Market, a trendy restaurant in New York’s Meatpacking District.
TMZ said that “Kanye and Kim were excited for the family gathering and the opportunity to show them just how great they are together” and that “the meeting went great, and the family thinks they make the perfect couple.”
And, of course, this all contradicts what MediaTakeOut reported about their supposed breakup. It claimed earlier that Kanye had broken things off when Kim tried to bring cameras along to visit him while on tour. But, then again, MediaTakeOut has never been the most reliable narrator, and the photos of Kim and Kanye at Spice Market seem like pretty good evidence that the two are still on.
News of the relationship first broke when Kim Kardashian was spotted leaving Kanye West’s house in the morning in the same clothing she was wearing the previous night when she went in. That same day, Kanye released a song in which he rapped about falling for Kim while she was still dating Chris Humphries.
Kanye’s song “Theraflu” included the lyrics: “And I’ll admit, I had fell in love with Kim / Around the time she had fell in love with him / Well that’s cool, baby girl, do ya thang / Lucky I ain’t had Jay drop him from the team.”
TMZ claimed the two had been “eyeing” each other since 2004. However, TMZ’s source maintained that “they never acted inappropriately while Kanye was with Amber Rose, or while Kim was with Kris Humphries.” (Ha! Yeah, right … )

With rumors that their relationship is just for show – and even one a few weeks ago about how the two had broken up – Kanye West and Kim Kardashian are still hitting the town, most recently photographed with Kim’s family at her brother-in-law Scott Disick’s new Japanese restaurant in Manhattan’s Meatpacking District, named RYU.
The restaurant is a parternship between Scott Disick and nightlife impresario Chris Reda, and the whole Kardashian klan – Kourtney, Khloé, and Kendall, along with Kylie Jenner, Khloé’s husband Lamar Odom, and mother Kris Jenner – showed up, according to Radar Online. And at one point in the evening, Kanye was spotted feeling Kim’s leg!
So does this mean they’re actually in love?
No, says Hollywood Life.
“If they are in the same area, they are going to hook up,” the source told the esteemable gossip rag, Hollywood Life, about Kim Kardashian and Kanye West. “But they are not going to take the relationship to the next level and become exclusive with each other.”
“They are equally using each other to expand their own personal interests/brands rather than fall in love,” the source concluded.
Sounds about right to us. It’s been a few months since the outrage and publicity surrounding Kim Kardashian’s divorce from Kris Humphries, and she’s just about due for another romantic entanglement!
And, it should go without saying, they do appear to be availing themselves of each other, sexually. Rumor is that two photos featured on MediaTakeOut three weeks ago were of Kanye West and Kim Kardashian. The first shows a mid-action shot of a man, who MediaTakeOut claims is Kanye West, engaging in sodomitical relations with a large-bottomed woman, who many are speculating is none other than Kim K. herself. The second picture is a tighter but no less graphic shot, again depicting posterior insertion.
Ashton Kutcher Dating Mila Kunis
Rumors that Mila Kunis and Ashlton Kutcher were dating were quickly shot down by Mila’s publicist. The denial may have been a little premature because PEOPLE details a three-day getaway the two made to the coastal town of Carpinteria, CA just south of Santa Barbara.
Sources say the two ate sushi, shopped for sunflowers and blueberries at a roadside stand and had a lot of private time on Saturday and were only spotted making a coffee run the next day. To restore their bodies after all the sex presumably.
A source says Ashton has been in love with Mila since That 70′s Show but never got a chance since she was dating Macaulay Culkin. Yet another source says Kutcher isn’t looking for anything serious. “He always talked about Mila like a little sister. They’re definitely close pals and have been. I think if anything she’s a good time for him. But he’s not looking for anything serious.”
The only reaction I have to this is, fuuuuuuuu, Ashton Kutcher. Then again, Mila should have told me we weren’t exclusive. Her window isn’t the only one I can creepily stare into at night, you know. Mark my words, you’ll miss these glowing eyes that you only catch a glimpse of in your periphery when they’re gone.

Is Amanda over Dominic and moving on with Josh?If there was a prize for Hollywood’s most mysterious couple, Amanda Seyfried and Josh Hartnett would definitely win the crown.
There have been so many rumours about these two that we really can’t work out if they are actually dating but keeping it on the quiet or if they are just good friends. With speculation that they’d broken off their fling earlier in the year, from the looks of it, they are still pretty friendly so we can’t help thinking that there could be something going on there.
On a break from filming her new role as Cosette in Les Miserables, Amanda flew back to LA and just so happened to be spotted meeting up with Josh for a coffee. She didn’t look too worried about dressing up though, and met up with Josh in her sportswear. The pair stopped off for a take away coffee and wandered through the neigbourhood where Amanda lives.
Neither have ever made any comment on a possible romance, but Amanda told Glamour that she and ex-boyfriend Dominic Cooper are still pretty close.
“He was my last real boyfriend,” Amanda told the February issue of the magazine, “we still joke about having kids, like, ‘If it doesn’t work out with other people, we might as well just have a child.’ And there’s part of that that feels.. possible.”
So it sounds like Josh could have some competition then, if he was thinking of getting a bit romantic with Amanda. The couple have been spotted hanging out together a lot though, and Amanda and Josh even introduced their dogs to each other, walking them on the beach together.

Decker had several female clients who hired attorneys for retainers upwards of $10,000. The women didn’t understand the process and their attorneys didn’t communicate with them. They hadn’t been given any documents.
“They went through that entire retainer and didn’t have anything to show for it!” Decker said. “So many times I’ve seen people having to divorce their divorce attorney!”
It’s not bad enough you have to go through one painful split — you might have to go through a second one, with the person who was supposed to help lead you out of this mess!
Decker said she’s seen a lot of horror stories that could’ve been prevented with a little work and communications up front.
In one case, the wife got the house but the agreement was that the husband had to pay the mortgage for 18 months. After that, the wife would refinance and pay it on her own. Guess what no one figured out? The wife didn’t have any income so she didn’t qualify to refinance. She wasn’t able to make her mortgage payments and suddenly the husband’s credit was affected.
Had they consulted a financial adviser or mortgage broker, they would’ve realized before they made that deal that she wouldn’t be able to refinance, Decker explained.
Speed dating
Speed divorcing is one of the latest trends to hit Splitsville. It is a lot like speed dating, where you have 15 minutes to speak to each person before it’s time to move on to the next, only you’re not meeting future dates or a future ex — you’re meeting attorneys, mediators, financial advisers, investment advisers, mortgage brokers and therapists — all the people you may need to consult as you hop the next train out of Blissville.
The first speed divorcing event, to be held this weekend in Atlanta, is the brainchild of Lisa Decker, a certified divorce financial analyst whose motto is “Divorce your spouse. Not your money.”
“I’m trying to help people be smart from the start. I see too many people who don’t understand what they’re getting into,” Decker said. “If you begin your divorce volatile and hire the wrong people you’re likely to end that way as well,” she said.
The idea is to put all of the people you might need to consult or hire along the way in one room and have you spend 15 minutes with each to see if they can help you — whether it’s managing your retirement account or helping you refinance your house.
She decided to do it like “speed dating” after hearing one too many clients say, “I don’t have time to follow up!”
Not to mention, planning a wedding — the happy part of your relationship — can be exhausting where you just want it to be over. Who wants to prolong the ugly part, divorce, by hiring the wrong person?
